Directions to The French Azilum Historic Site
From Towanda and west: take Route 6 about four miles EAST to Wysox. Watch for the sign just before the intersection of Route 6 and Route 187. At that intersection (you will see a Dandy Mart/Gas Station at the crossroads) take a RIGHT on Route 187. Go about four miles. There will be another sign. Take a LEFT onto French Azilum Road. Follow that for about three miles and stay on that road, which curves markedly. You will see another sign, so turn left remaining on French Azilum Road. This road goes down into a broad plain and ends at a T junction, with another sign, and another left turn. The site entrance is straight ahead, with parking in the mown area.
From Tunkhannock/Scranton and east: take Route 6 WEST. From Tunkhannock it is about 25 miles. You will pass Meshoppen, then the Wyoming County Fairgrounds, then Laceyville, and finally come to Wyalusing. In Wyalusing, turn LEFT at the first traffic signal you come to, shortly after the Dunkin' and filling station on your right. Go over the bridge. Take an immediate RIGHT as soon as you are over the bridge, onto Route 187. There is a sign. Follow Route 187 for about 8 miles, until you come to Vial Hill Road on your right. There is a pond on the right and a white farmhouse with a red metal roof on your left. Turn RIGHT onto Vial Hill Road. Take the next LEFT after just a few hundred feet, onto Kerrick Hill Road. Follow that, as it curves around, and stay on it--do not go onto any dirt roads into farmers' fields! After another four miles, Kerrick Hill Road will go downhill into a peculiar intersection. Do not take the hairpin right, and do not go left. Rather, go at a gentle RIGHT turn onto French Azilum Road. There is a sign, which you will see as you go. Follow this road as it goes downhill again and empties out onto a large, flat plain. The road dead ends in a T junction. There is also a sign. Turn LEFT. The entrance to the site is straight ahead, with parking in the mown area.
From Wilkes-Barre and south: take route 309/29 north about 16 miles through Dallas. You will see a sign for Noxen, but stay on your current road. In Tunkhannock go over the bridge and at the light, turn left. If you take the bypass, you still turn left, and if you go through the center of town, you still turn left. You will end up on Route 6 WEST. Stay on Route 6 WEST for about 25 miles. The entrance to the site is straight ahead, with parking in the mown area.
From Binghamton/Elmira and north: take Route 17 to Route 220 SOUTH and use the Towanda exit. Take Route 6 EAST from Towanda, to Wysox, about four miles.
